This notice explains what happens to the information you send through helenwest.ca. It is written to meet Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act. If anything here is unclear, please ask and it will be explained plainly.
Who is responsible

What is collected
Only what you type into the contact form: your name, email address, an optional phone number, the topic you select, and your message. The website records the time of your submission and the IP address it came from, which is used to block automated spam and for nothing else.
There are no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels and no third-party analytics on this site. A single session cookie is set when you open the contact page. It exists only to protect the form against cross-site request forgery, holds no personal information, and expires when you close your browser.
Why it is collected, and what it is used for
Your information is used to answer your enquiry. That is the whole purpose. Submitting the form does not add you to a mailing list, and you will not receive marketing messages as a result of contacting Helen. If a mailing list is offered in future it will be a separate, clearly worded opt-in, as Canada's anti-spam legislation requires.
Who it is shared with
Your enquiry reaches Helen by email and is stored on the website's server. It is not sold, rented or traded. It may be shared with CIR Realty where the brokerage is required to have it as part of a real estate transaction, and with service providers such as the email and hosting companies that carry and store the message on Helen's behalf. It may also be disclosed where the law requires it.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Enquiries are stored on the website's server in Canada or the United States, depending on the hosting region, and in Helen's email account. Enquiries that do not lead to a working relationship are kept for up to two years and then deleted. Where an enquiry becomes a real estate transaction, records are kept for the period required by the Real Estate Act and the rules of the Real Estate Council of Alberta.
How it is protected
The site is served over an encrypted connection. Form submissions are stored outside the public area of the web server, and access is limited to Helen and the person maintaining the site.
Your choices
You may ask what personal information is held about you, ask for a correction, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to helen@helenwest.ca and it will be dealt with within thirty days. If you are not satisfied with the response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
Children
This site is not directed at children and information is not knowingly collected from them.
Changes
If this notice changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
